What will I learn in the ongoing classes?

REAL ART SKILLS

We start off with the basics of sketching and how to use simple shapes to complete a drawing.

Then we move in to how to use lights and shadows to create depth within your artwork.

We will use charcoal, pastels, and acrylic paint to complete our projects, all the while tackling such topics as color, shading, texture, and even perspective. Once you are confident using these mediums, we will move onto oil paints, where you will develop your skills further.

We will begin with monochromatic painting to get used to the way the paint works. then moving on to color, and eventually working from photographs. The sky is the limit here. Advanced students even have the option to learn portrait sketching and painting.

I don't have any artistic talent. Can I still take a class?

Of course!

No prior experience is necessary.

All you need is the desire to learn, and we have everything else you will need here.

We will start at the very beginning, helping you to build your skills and artistic vocabulary slowly at your own pace.

Our instructors will guide you toward your goals, step by step, helping you achieve a true confidence and proficiency in drawing and painting.

Materials

We provide only very high quality art materials, such as pastels, charcoal, acrylic paint, and variety of premium art papers. The monthly tuition  helps us cover the cost of these expensive supplies, and allows us to keep providing them to our students.

Will we have to buy any additional supplies?

All of the supplies for our beginning students are covered in the monthly tuition. Once you have become more adept with the beginning materials, you will start oil painting. Though we do provide some oil painting supplies, such as palette paper, and paint thinner, practice painting boards, you will need to purchase your own brushes, paints, and canvases. We have all the oil painting supplies available for sale, or you are welcome to purchase them elsewhere. If you do decide to buy them elsewhere, be wary of cheap supplies, because when it comes to art materials, you get what you pay for!! High quality materials are very helpful in creating high quality works of art.

Can I join a class in the middle of a month?

Yes, if there is a space available in the class, you are welcome to join mid-month.

You will pay a prorated amount, based on of the number of classes that are left in the month.

Can we pay per class as we go?

No, you must sign up for an entire month (or the prorated amount if you are starting mid-month).

We strive for our students to truly learn a skill, not just complete projects.

Much of what they will learn will build upon something they have learned before, so regular attendance is essential.

Will my child come home with a completed project every class?

No. Some projects may only take one session, but as they become more advanced, they may spend two or three weeks on a project.

Some of our advanced oil painters sometimes even spend months on a single piece, if it is something very complicated, or meaningful to them.

What do we do if we have to miss a class? Are there make up classes?

You must let us know ahead of time that you will be missing a class in order to receive a make up.

Makeup classes will not be given to no shows.

Please use your makeup within the month to maintain the consistency of attendance.

You must be a current student enrolled in classes to use a makeup.

No refunds will be given.

If I take a break from classes for a period of time, will you hold my spot until I return?

Unfortunately, we cannot hold your spot. Our classes are in high demand, and tend to fill up quickly. We do open the spot to our waitlists. We understand that life gets busy sometimes, so if you do need to take an extended break for any reason, we will do our best to accommodate you upon your return.

Can I stay and watch my child during class?

Parents are not allowed to be in the actual classroom while class is in session (aside from a quick peek now and again, of course).

We find a distraction-free environment to be the most conducive to learning.

With all the kids at their various benches, stools, and easels, the handful of teachers we have in each class need to be able to move around quickly and easily, in order to provide the best instruction to your child.
